Lesson Learned

Turning 34 on the day after Christmas brought me a lesson. Did you know that you are actually supposed to drink water? I will admit, I am not a water drinker. I don't enjoy it AT ALL. Hence, why I haven't been drinking any. Well, apparently, if you don't drink water, you become dehydrated. No seriously, it happens. I know, I know, you all know this. Well, apparently if you are pregnant and don't' drink water and become dehydrated it can bring on contractions, real contractions. So, at 1 am on my birthday, I woke up with a major case of the chills. Then, came the contractions. I was in shock and laid there counting. Finally at 2 am I woke up Allen and told him I thought maybe I was contracting. And that I was soooo cold and needed a bath. I laid in the bath a long time. Got out and began to contract all over again. Allen went into panic mode with me and started washing baby clothes since that was not done. I tried to sleep but let's be honest, not much sleeping was going on. In the a.m., I quickly realized that I had nothing packed for me. Tried packing but I was a little overwhelmed with the idea of giving birth that day. Allen helped ready the house and we left for the hospital.
Well upon arriving and getting checked in, they noticed my ketones were way elevated which mean I was severely dehydrated. Ahhh, so that's why I was SO thirsty. An IV bag and a half later, I got the lecture about drinking water and keeping my iron in check since I am still anemic. Basically, I need to take better care of myself. So, lesson learned. I have been downing water and trying to remember the vitamins I need to take.
Thank you to all that were ready in the wings to help us with Ryan. We may need you again if Erin comes early. But my bags are almost done being packed correctly. And we are trying to ready to house quickly. This all probably means she will hold out until 1/14/09. haha

I'm pleased you and Erin are ok, and she's staying put for a little while longer. I had the same thing happen to me when I was pregnant with Nick, and got the "drink more water" lecture too!
