It's the Simple Things

As a mother, you often judge what your child is doing versus any child near your child's age. Not only is this not fair, it's hard on you and your child. You try not to push the but it still happens. I feel this constantly and have to reign myself in constantly.
Ryan's preschool class is made up of 2-3 year olds. He is the youngest by quite a few months (I think 6 months). And anyone that has had a 2 year old can tell you this is a huge developmental year. While it is neat to see where he probably will be in 6 months, it's also hard to think that maybe he is being judged for NOT being there yet. The teachers definitely don't do this. Outsiders may because of his height. Allen would proudly exclaim (and often does) that he is maybe the 2nd tallest in his class. I am quite sure that he would probably bring a measuring stick in just to verify if he was the one dropping Ryan off. haha
ANYWAY, I digress, as I often do...Ryan and Mommy got kudos yesterday. Mommy was brave and sent in a juice box in his lunch. It was a big hit with him according to his teacher. Photobucket What she doesn't know. is that Mommy and Daddy have been working on the juice box issue. I think Ryan is one of the only kids left in his room with a sippy. So we are slowly moving away from that! And low and behold, this afternoon I decided to try a sippy cup I bought awhile ago that mimics a cup (it looks like a travel coffee cup for kids) just to see if I could get him to drink out of it. It took one prompt from me and he was drinking like a pro! Photobucket Yay!!! So I think we are going to be moving quite dangerously toward cup usage. Egads, I can already envision the spills! (yes, egads...I used it.) And my #2 kudos for the day was a little handwritten note from Ryan's teacher saying that he is using his words more frequently. So that made my day! My baby is turning into a little boy. sigh. This is a good thing, right? And to boot, today I bought his first pair of underwear (actually 3pairs). This will sure embarass him in the future. I am prepping to start potty training in Spring! yippee.

I am completely jealous of the sippy thing. Santa brought Kelly that exact same cup (but in purple) and she only wants the darn Nubys. ARGH! Congrats Ryan!!!! What a big boy!!!

Tayla loves those sippy cups. I'm positive that those are what have gotten her used to drinking from a regular cup. Oh and good luck with the potty training too **crosses fingers for you**

Wow! We're way behind Ryan. We're still using the sippy with no signs of stopping! WTG Ryan!

Katie has only very recently moved to a cup, still has her sippy too when she wants to drink fast. We have to emphasise *slowly, carefully and with two hands* - doesn't always work ;-).
You're right, the changes are coming thick and fast and I bet he'll be doing what the other kids are in no time. Katie just started playgroup today and she looks like a baby compared to some of them!
